Installation Tips Wire Baskets Wire basket trays are becoming popular with electrical contractors and consulting engineers. They are cheaper and easier to install than conventional tray work. They have high sides and are conducive to high cable capacities. Unfortunately, they can have an adverse effect on UTP cables. The problem arises when the weight of the cables causes them to be compressed against the solid wire frame. Another factor worth considering (see EN50174.2:2000 Section 6.6.2) is the low EMC shielding effect compared with conventional tray systems. Barriers and inlays can be used but this costs more and they are more difficult to install partially negating the initial advantage of using basket tray.
